It's All About Winter Comfort!

….And it snowed in Boston yesterday.  Just as I was trying to transition my closet to more Spring- themed outfits, BOOM snow.  But, that’s New England for ya.  I actually love living here and experiencing each season, it’s just that as each season nears the end, I’m SO ready for the new one to begin!

When it does snow, I refuse to dress in anything but comfort.  You should have seen me on the days it snowed when I worked in a business casual (think no jeans) atmosphere.  Let’s just say I improvised...liberally!  All that to say, I wanted pure comfort but to also look cute while out and about with the kiddies.  I chose my go-to weekend lounge wear: black leggings.  Ahh, they are so versatile!  I paired them with a cute striped long-sleeved tee from J. Crew Factory for a pop of color and threw my favorite sweatshirt on over that.  I live for the layered look!  It’s a style you’ll see on me often!

I threw on some rain boots to combat the snow while running errands.  Although I do own very comfortable and warm winter boots, I tend to wear these rain boots (over thick socks!) when the snow piles up.  I don’t have to worry about snow or slush sneaking in the tops of my boots with these babies!  Do you like to dress in layers?  This outfit is so easy to recreate!  All you need are leggings (mine are from Gap), a patterned tee and a somewhat oversized sweatshirt (I found mine at H&M).

Lastly, I threw on my super cozy beanie to keep the ol’ ears warm.  Speaking of beanies, I have so much trouble finding hats that look good on my small head!  So I recently gave up looking and decided make my own!  Fun fact: I LOVE to crochet for fun and often look for reasons to start a new project.  For this hat, I simply scoured Pinterest for a pattern I really like and discovered this pattern. If you crochet, I highly suggest you check out her stuff- it’s all so beautiful and her instructions are so easy to follow.  I’ve worn this beanie for the past two winters and it’s held up wonderfully.  It’s actually the only winter hat I have!

How do you stay warm (and cute) in the winter?

Is It Spring Yet?

I’m doing it again- raiding my closet.  At the end of each season, I find myself itching for new clothes, preferably styles that are more geared toward the next season.  Does anyone else do that?  In this case, I really, really want to buy a whole new Spring wardrobe but my dilemma is that as a one-income household in this very expensive city, I can’t bring myself to spend the cash.  Plus, it’s still freezing outside so I can’t even wear them yet!  Instead, I reached for my go-to sweater, a beautiful rosey-blush colored piece I purchased from Madewell earlier this winter.  Since then, I’ve been wearing it weekly. Still craving that Spring touch, I rifled through some tanks I’ve held onto, even though they’re not quite compatible with chasing toddlers.  The necklines are low and when I bend over, everything is on display.  These are the tanks that are saved specifically for adult outings or times when I won’t be essentially rolling on the ...

A Piece for Every Season

I love a clothing item that I can use over and over again, all year long.  If I’m spending money on clothes, I like to get use out of them.  That is certainly the case with my Abercrombie and Fitch cardigan ( similar to this style ).  It’s the prettiest heathered pink and I have actually I’ve worn it during every New England season so far! I bought this in late summer in preparation for the coming Fall weather.  I ended up wearing it on those late summer nights when the hottest day suddenly drops to the coolest evenings once the sun sets.  It is the perfect weight to keep me warm but not overheat, especially with cut-offs and a tank.  I packed this every time I ventured to Cape Cod for the weekend.   Here are some of the ways I styled this sweater in each season: Summer: This sweater is super cute layered over a a slouchy tee knotted at the waist and some cut offs.  My tee is from J.Crew and cut offs from Express a few years ago...
