A Piece for Every Season

I love a clothing item that I can use over and over again, all year long.  If I’m spending money on clothes, I like to get use out of them.  That is certainly the case with my Abercrombie and Fitch cardigan (similar to this style).  It’s the prettiest heathered pink and I have actually I’ve worn it during every New England season so far!

I bought this in late summer in preparation for the coming Fall weather.  I ended up wearing it on those late summer nights when the hottest day suddenly drops to the coolest evenings once the sun sets.  It is the perfect weight to keep me warm but not overheat, especially with cut-offs and a tank.  I packed this every time I ventured to Cape Cod for the weekend.   Here are some of the ways I styled this sweater in each season:

Summer:

This sweater is super cute layered over a a slouchy tee knotted at the waist and some cut offs.  My tee is from J.Crew and cut offs from Express a few years ago.  I also layered this over this patterned sundress (with pockets!) from Gap Factory and a cute pair of sandals as well as various floral dresses.  It's such a pretty look while still maintaining that casual feel that I lean toward.

Fall:

Layered over this delicate J.Crew cami (they have a similar scalloped cami at J.Crew Factory that would look cute as well), cuffed jeans and some booties.  Perfect for those not-too-warm/not-too-cold Boston Fall days.

Winter:

Similar look but paired with a scarf and long sleeve shirt for warmth.

Spring:

I love a monochromatic look under cardigans.  It really elongates that body and i need all the height I can get!

How cute are these black and white striped Target flats?  I found them a couple of years ago and wear them all the time.

I’ve worn this sweater at pop-up beer gardens, over floral sun dresses at showers, with ripped jeans and booties for Harvard Square coffees, and with scarves and uggs for those hellish Winter days!

Funny enough, I thought I had sworn off Abercrombie after graduating college ____ years ago (ha!) but I’ve been perusing their site recently and have found such cute things!  I haven’t ventured into their jeans yet (I remember them running super small - do they still?)  but I’ve been purchasing a lot of their tops.  So cute and affordable!

Want to replicate this look?  Check out their easy open cardigan linked above and pair it with any camis, tees, skinny jeans or cut-offs you have!

Do you have any clothing pieces that carry you through every season?

It's All About Winter Comfort!

….And it snowed in Boston yesterday.  Just as I was trying to transition my closet to more Spring- themed outfits , BOOM snow.  But, that’s New England for ya.  I actually love living here and experiencing each season, it’s just that as each season nears the end, I’m SO ready for the new one to begin! When it does snow, I refuse to dress in anything but comfort.  You should have seen me on the days it snowed when I worked in a business casual (think no jeans) atmosphere.  Let’s just say I improvised...liberally!  All that to say, I wanted pure comfort but to also look cute while out and about with the kiddies.  I chose my go-to weekend lounge wear: black leggings.  Ahh, they are so versatile!  I paired them with a cute striped long-sleeved tee from J. Crew Factory for a pop of color and threw my favorite sweatshirt on over that.  I live for the layered look!  It’s a style you’ll see on me often! I threw on some rain b...

Is It Spring Yet?

I’m doing it again- raiding my closet.  At the end of each season, I find myself itching for new clothes, preferably styles that are more geared toward the next season.  Does anyone else do that?  In this case, I really, really want to buy a whole new Spring wardrobe but my dilemma is that as a one-income household in this very expensive city, I can’t bring myself to spend the cash.  Plus, it’s still freezing outside so I can’t even wear them yet!  Instead, I reached for my go-to sweater, a beautiful rosey-blush colored piece I purchased from Madewell earlier this winter.  Since then, I’ve been wearing it weekly. Still craving that Spring touch, I rifled through some tanks I’ve held onto, even though they’re not quite compatible with chasing toddlers.  The necklines are low and when I bend over, everything is on display.  These are the tanks that are saved specifically for adult outings or times when I won’t be essentially rolling on the ...
